for the debut release on eaux, rrose searched through ostertags cassette archives to discover a lost gem of studio improvisation from 1977. >the surgeon general< sees the barely post-teen bob ostertag exploring feedback techniques with an early buchla modular synthesizer, tape delay, flute and violin. the results are uncharacteristically moody, spacious, and well ahead of their time. on the flip, rrose provides two new revisions. >no child left behind< is a noisy and hypnotic acid-laden beast designed for dancefloor damage, while >her insides laid bare< takes the original into murky subaquatic territory. look for much more to come from rrose and eaux in the coming months.

deo & z-man, the blood-brothers from hamburg, pulled off one of the most creative feats of last year with their debut album, no bullshit , with zero bs but plenty of inspiration, the pair melted together a range of influences with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek humour for their underground opus. the remix lp to follow this ep solidifies their commitment to the eclectic, drafting in friends and family like lee burton, erobique and tigerskin to rework the magic.

october is back with his first solo 12 after appearing on fred ps spm label last year. both cuts will please lovers of octobers trademark slow techno sound and also hint at the industrial influences which he explores more heavily on his debut lp, forthcoming on skudge white.

last year moscow records set up sub-label moss co and each release so far has introduced a new set of artists. for this third release it is nu zau, aka stefan gabriel zamfir and loopdeville, aka d zlatinov. nu zau debuted on fear of flying in 2012 and his 2013 was prolific with seven releases added to his name. he provides an 11-minute drum track, *cumse cuvine*, that is filled with kooky and super minimal, squeaks, tweets and vocal samples, a fine production. loopdevilles kick drum on *piance* in comparison to zaus a-side is standout, and here he provides a cold and moody track designed for those deeper moments of the night. it is the london-based producers third release after debuting in 2013 with two 12 inches, one of which, phantasmagoria, inaugurated new label delooped.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

this october, the compilation disco sympathy will be released on versatile. it’s author is vidal benjamin, an outstanding dj / digger, considered by his pals as one of the most brilliant in his category. and that says a lot! here he makes us rediscover the sound that was so characteristic of a certain early eighties french scene: wacky, happy, dancing and at times even poetic. one begins to travel through an era during which the french producers were not afraid to tackle disco, american boogie, british and german synth wave, to present us their version: french, poppy and above all... fun!as a prelude, before releasing the compilation, versatile will come with limited 33 rpm and 45 rpm maxis, on which every track has undergone an editing treatment by mysterious french producers: jean-marc misère (last sighted somewhere near london), dj ringardos (who, since his last versatile release in 2008, chose roman exile), alt (already spotted on the edits du golem and on the us label black disco), and of course vidal benjamin himself, accompanied by gilbert cohen - the boss. on the 45 rpm you ll find no-one less than jeff lasson, of the get a room! duo, who came through with flying colors. and as a bonus beat: misère on the b-side.

located beyond neptunes orbit is the dwarf planet haumea, the inspiration behind rodhads second release for token. it follows his spomeniks 12inch from last year which the berliner used to debut on the belgian label, the only other imprint hes released with other than his own dystopian records. over the past three years rodhads reputation has sky-rocketed, not only as an accomplished producer with five releases to his name, but as a big room dj whose formidable presence behind the decks demands as much respect as dvs1 and german big guns dettmann and klock.

what does a rave sound like the next day? the strobe lights in a dark warehouse, the pounding kick, the blur of ecstatic faces lead to a morning-after emptiness, all fade into memories of the friends you once had. on ode, tin man (proper name johannes auvinen) explores this feeling, offering tracks which possess an exhausted joy, the aural equivalent of the stretch of time beginning when the last record is played and stretching on towards the doleful contemplation of last night’s unmade sheets. appropriately, tin man’s melancholic dance music is more club-ready than ever.

publicist is longtime producer/performer/musician sebastian thomson. his tracks approach house music from a darker angle, adding processed vocals and noise to a raw foundation that also takes cues from new beat, acid house, and detroit techno. when performing live publicist sequences the synths and not the drums, preferring to play an electronically treated drum kit in the middle of the dance floor. this adds an element of sweat, excitement and virtuosity not found in most electronic producer s live performances. sebastian thomson is also known as a founding member of post rock pioneers trans am and as the drummer of heavy metal innovators baroness. living in brooklyn by way of buenos aires, washington dc and london, publicist has spent the last four years touring europe extensively.

a bold move to cover a daft punk record? perhaps but off msg and vocalist hadi create a respectful update of the oft overlooked romanthony penned finale to daft punks second album. too long is one side of vinyl and 6 minutes of classic infectious house music as uncomplicated as it is effective. sounding not unlike an early marshall jefferson / jungle wonz record. hadis vocal leads the way, underpinned by loose house beats, live tambourine, a when house was discos little brother bass line and analogue disco stabs that punctuate the space. strictly limited to 500 hand stickered, stamped and numbered with no repress. these will not hang around mastered by original two lone swordsman mr keith tenniswood.

after last years second part, the third contribution of the >vinyl only edits< series is curating a wonderful showcase of the diverse artists on bpitch control. besides joy wellboy, furfriend, snuff crew and cesare vs. disorder & dave vega put hands on their own tracks again.

nsm002 is me, mosca, again. two not-house not-techno tracks, a little more raw and textured than my last 12inch but with the same emphasis on dark, sexy grooves and just enough dissonance and freakiness. the greyhounds is a dubby rolling thing with an indulgent breakdown that i wondered about scrapping. i ended up backing myself because the crowds i played it to seemed happy, and ive wanted to use those strings for eleven years now. i tried to make clinical trial for the basement clubs, dust and metal and tape. thanks for checking it out.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.
